World Hoop Day is an annual, global charity event that aims to give hoops to children worldwide. The WHD Dance project allows hoopers worldwide to learn and perform a choreographed hoop dance that is later compiled into one dance video as part of the World Hoop Day celebrations.
WHD Dance 2010
In 2010, Spin Matsuri’s Kristen McQuillin choreographed a hoop dance routine that she shared in video tutorials, workshops, and at Hoop Camp with hundreds of hoop dancers. Hoopers around the world performed the dance and sent their videos to Spin Matsuri. The result was a compilation video of scores of hoopers dancing in 17 locations in six countries.
The project and the compilation video were both nominated for Hooping.org’s Hoopies in 2010.
WHD Dance 2011
In 2011, the WHD Dance was choreographed by Kristen McQuillin and Tomomi Ara. The final video compilation included 317 dancers in 11 countries and 41 different locations.
